Has the pandemic inspired you to consider a change in direction?
Registered Care Services (Crownhill, Shenley Church End and Great Holm)
Would you relish the opportunity to make a positive impact on people’s lives?
If so, this could be a great opportunity for you to develop a career working with people who have a learning disability and/or autism.
About the role
MacIntyre is an award-winning charity supporting people with learning disabilities and autism, and we have opportunities within our registered care provisions in Crownhill, Shenley Church End and Great Holm.
We are looking for active, fun-loving individuals who are willing to learn new things to support people of mixed ages and genders. You will join in with their favourite pastimes and hobbies, helping them to be active members of their local community, and promoting independence whilst recognising and reacting to changes in health needs.
No two days are the same! One day you may find yourself bowling, supporting a dance or animal session or visiting the seaside. The next you might find yourself taking part in a sponsored bike ride or garden exercise class. Or perhaps you'll find yourself dancing round the living room to someone’s favourite songs! Every day is different when you work at MacIntyre.
We support many people, all with differing support needs: from individuals that are very independent to others needing more assistance. Some people we support require help with personal care and/or medication and can display some emotional and physical behaviours of concern. We will provide you with full specialist training for this, as well as day-to-day help and advice from your manager and senior practitioners.
As part of the job you will be required to work on a rota basis which includes days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays. The shift patterns across our services vary depending on people's needs..
What we need from you
Experience isn’t necessary. If you have the right attitude, good customer service skills, share our values and are willing to learn, you’re likely to be a great fit. Often people join us from the hospitality and retail sectors and find their skills adapt well.
We want people that are able to think outside the box and be creative in their approaches, helping the people we support to engage with their hobbies and interests. This could be as simple as supporting someone to make a video call, order their online shopping or cook their tea.
It would be helpful if you are a driver with a manual licence, so you can drive the service vehicles, though this is not essential at all our services.
Milton Keynes is one of MacIntyre’s largest areas, providing a lot of choice. At interview we'll describe our different services and discuss with you which might work well for you.
About usMacIntyre is a national charity which supports over 1,200 people with a learning disability and/or autism.
We were founded in 1966 by the visionary parent of a child with disabilities and have been growing steadily ever since. We celebrate and develop everyone’s unique gifts, talents and contributions.
Training and Development
At Macintyre we fully support your training and development. We know it can be daunting to start a new job, and not everyone learns the same way, so throughout your probation we will provide you with a mixture of eLearning, face-to-face training and mentoring support whilst on the job.
But it doesn't stop there - throughout your career with us you will have access to our own dedicated in house Learning and Development team, Quality Specialists and HR Teams. These teams, along with your Manager, will provide you with opportunities to learn and develop professionally as well as enabling and supporting you to achieve professional qualifications and career progression opportunities - all free of charge.
Pay and Rewards
We provide a range of benefits to reward and thank our staff which includes:
