Are you looking for work that is truly fulfilling? Do you want a job where your influence will continue long after your shift ends? Could you support adults with a learning disability to live the way they want?
You'll join our friendly team of Support Workers at one of our small, homely supported living services in St Albans. You will be supporting people like Simon*, Ashley* and Susan*. Here's what they had to say about the type of person they are looking for:-
My name is Simon* and I live with 3 other people. I like my staff to be fun and creative, thinking of exciting activities for us to do. I enjoy movie nights, going swimming, visiting restaurants, walking, going to do my personal shopping and barbeques in my garden. All of these are very important to me I like a routine and being busy, this helps me to lead a happy & fulfilled life.
I have a diagnosis of autism. I like to know what is happening and what activities I have planned for each day. I like my staff to be clear when communicating with me and be patient, encouraging and reassuring.Hello, I'm Ashley* I love arts and crafts which I’m very good at. I have created some wonderful pieces of art. My support workers help me get around town. Sometimes they drive and sometimes we go on public transport. I like staff to explain how much things cost like food, travel and entrance fees.
My name is Susan* my family are really nice, I like my support workers to get on with them. Everyone has good days and not so good days! I have a great support plan to help you to get to know me and support me the way I want you to. I am very independent and can do most things myself but I just need good guidance from you. I look forward to meeting you.
Working with people like Simon, Ashley and Susan can be a lot of fun and you don't need any experience as we will train you. Some people rely less than others on verbal communication, so you'll become great at picking up on small non-verbal cues. You'll discover that every tiny thing you do has an impact, and when you get it right, you'll know you got it right: you'll get a chuckle or a smile, you'll see someone's body relax or their eyes light up.
‘’I joined MacIntyre 3 years ago as a support practitioner, before this job I was a warehouse assistant and had no previous experience in the care sector. I get paid to have fun with the people I support and I love my job. I wouldn’t want to do anything else now.’’
