Could you use your professional housekeeping skills to help us maintain a clean, homely residential environment for children and young people who have complex needs?
You'll be working at our children's home in the pretty village of Wingrave, near Aylesbury. Here, we support children with learning disabilities and/or autism to live and learn (at our school next door) as they grow to adulthood.
The residential home consists of seven adjoining houses, each of which is home to up to five students. Each child has their own room, decorated according to their individual taste and interests. Each house has a staff team to support young people with the pastimes and hobbies they enjoy, making sure their needs are supported.
This role is 37.5 hours a week, 52 weeks a year. Hours are mostly daytimes Monday to Friday but there will be a need for some flexibility.
Where do you come in?
You'll work to ensure children have the joy of living in a warm, homely environment, supporting staff teams in the home to maintain high standards of cleanliness. You'll oversee and coordinate menu planning, ensuring that meals cooked by staff are both delicious and of a high nutritional value. You'll make sure that high quality furnishings are sourced, and that any damage is dealt with speedily.
You'll also manage the part-time school cook who cooks light lunches for students during the school day.
We believe it's the both the overall quality and the small cosy touches that make a house a home, so you'll be someone with an eagle eye for detail.
About usMacIntyre is a national charity which supports over 1,200 people with a learning disability and/or autism.
We were founded in 1966 by the visionary parent of a child with disabilities and have been growing steadily ever since. We celebrate and develop everyone’s unique gifts, talents and contributions.
What we need from you
Perhaps you've been working as a Housekeeper in the hotel and hospitality sector and are looking for a change. Perhaps you've worked in the NHS or social care.
You'll need knowledge and experience in the practical side of keeping premises clean, tidy and well-maintained, and be able to teach your skills to others. You'll have an understanding of good menu-planning.
Because you'll be stock-keeping and completing monitoring and quality records, you'll need a good level of IT skills.
Be aware that the school is in a rural location not well-served by public transport, so you will probably be a driver with your own transport.
