Support Worker

Job reference: 000698

Location: Wigan

Closing date: 15/03/2021

Salary: £8.75 per hour

Employment type: Full-time or part-time

Do you feel fulfilled after you finish your day's work? No? Perhaps you would if you worked to support a young man with Autism and complex needs.

Harry* is 24 years old, and is in the process of moving into his own home for the first time. He is kind and funny, and loves being around people, bantering and sharing a joke. His aspirations include work experience and perhaps going to college. He is extremely keen on acting and the theatre, especially musicals. He's also a big rugby fan.

Harry has a diagnosis of Autism and behavioural issues including self-harm, which can mean a trip to the hospital. He needs Support Workers who can be creative in helping to keep him occupied: for example he enjoys going for long drives, and keeping in close touch with his family. You'll need to support with Harry's personal care, but this is mostly a matter of prompting him as needed.

We have options for either one full-timer (37.5 hpw) or two part-timers to fill this role. You'll be part of a rota covering shifts across days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

*Not his real name

About you

You don't need experience as we will provide all the free training and day-to-day support you need. You must be a driver with a manual licence in order to drive Harry's motability vehicle, and you must be aged 25 or over for insurance purposes.

This is a specialist service and it may be of particular interest to you if you are keen on psychology, or making a career with people who are on the Autistic spectrum. If your friends would describe you as imaginative, resilient and calm, then you probably have exactly the right personality to do a great job supporting Harry.
