Peer Support Worker (Ref: NE29)

£16,528 per annum, pro rata

18 hours per week

Based: Newcastle and Gateshead


An opportunity has arisen for a Peer Support Worker to join our Newcastle Employment Team and Gateshead Employment Team.

This exciting new role will be responsible for; supporting in the delivery of an Employment Job Club and Hub by facilitating individual mentoring activities, recruiting peer supporters and mentors from the existing client group and developing, establishing and the initial facilitation of peer support groups.  You will enable the groups to become “self-facilitated” and will provide an element of ongoing low level support where necessary.

You should have the ability to instil hope, increase self-belief and independence and to empower and support the aspirations of the groups that you establish, so clients who use and move on from services have an ongoing valued network of peer and social support. 

You will have excellent understanding of community resources and a good knowledge of the issues disabled people and those with a long term health condition face when securing and retaining employment.  You will be qualified at least to NVQ Level 3 standard or equivalent and will have the demonstrated skill and ability to motivate others and help them to identify and overcome barriers.

Lived experience of disability or long term health conditions is essential as is lived experience or understanding of the principles and practicalities of establishing peer support.  You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate a proactive and positive attitude.
