Salary: £22,128 - £28,746 per annum pro rata (AfC Band 5)
This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are dedicated to the principles of social inclusion, to work with adults with mental health needs. Working within a Haven in York, the post will work supporting people in distress and in need of immediate support. The role will involve evening work. Based in a welcoming, safe, supportive, comfortable and non-clinical environment that promotes independent opportunities for recovery.
You will offer smooth links to the crisis and home treatment teams, hospital liaison teams, street triage and the access and wellbeing service. You will refer to the local community mental health services for urgent follow up the next working day for more severe crises.
You will have a trauma aware approach – an understanding of not only a service user’s history of trauma, but also of the risk that use of the Haven at Clarence Street may cause. For example, people feeling rejected or invalidated. You will have access and good connections with other mental health providers, both the NHS, local authority, voluntary sector, the police and ambulance service. You will help relieve emotional distress by providing empathy, supportive reassurance, catharsis and time.
Leading a team, you will work closely with mental health workers, partners and other agencies. You will have experience of working within a mental health setting. Knowledge of primary and secondary care pathways is key. You will demonstrate an ability to priorities caseload and have an understanding of the principles of the care and Mental Health Act.
You will be educated to degree level and have awareness of/ or experience of working with people who have experienced mental health issues, particularly those that may be in distress. You will have the demonstrated skills and ability to help others identify and overcome barriers. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and will be able to demonstrate a proactive and highly motivated attitude.
