To provide a specialised Dog Legislation Officer (DLO) capability to the Force,

evidence and conducting investigations into allegations of breaches of exemption
certificates, thereby providing reassurance to the communities of Merseyside.
To select and train police dogs and instruct police personnel in aspects of dog
handling to meet national standards and thereby contribute towards an effective
service in response to meet customer expectations within Merseyside Police.
Merseyside Police is committed to developing a Police Service that is representative of the diverse communities that we police and serve. As an employer, we strive to ensure that all our personnel practices, including recruitment, promotion and development are applied consistently and fairly and that the overriding principle governing selection is merit.
Although the diversity of our staff is improving, we are not fully representative yet and are addressing this imbalance through a variety of initiatives such as providing appropriate advice, encouragement and support throughout the recruitment/promotion process specifically for people who are underrepresented* within the organisation.
By embedding diversity of thought throughout Merseyside Police means that talent can be properly recognised and nurtured - wherever it may be. A diverse workforce brings with it advantages such as:
-
Providing more adaptability in terms of problem solving by offering a wider array of possible solutions;
-
Multi-cultural organisations are better positioned to serve multi-cultural communities, by overcoming language and cultural barriers.
Having a Police service that is reflective of the community will ensure that Merseyside Police has a Police Service of skilled Police Officers, Staff and Volunteers with the core values required to meet the highest standards and expectations of the public of Merseyside.
