Quantity Surveyor

Location: South East in Basingstoke, Guildford or Maidstone

National Highways is expanding its commercial management team to support the delivery of its £1bn annual investment programme to maintain the Strategic Road Network. As part of this expansion, we have an exciting opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our team.

You will lead the commercial and contract management of a diverse portfolio of schemes, ranging from £1m to over £30m in value. The variety and complexity of these projects will provide you with the opportunity to enhance your skills, capabilities, and experience in a challenging and rewarding delivery environment.

Provide contractual advice to the business and the service delivery team.

  • Day to day contract and commercial management including managing communication and notifications to timescales, managing and valuing compensation events and early warnings and review and agree final account using CEMAR contract management portal.
  • Assess payment applications using National Highways systems.
  • Lead on regular cost and contract audits to ensure contractor compliance with contract conditions.
  • Monitor actual costs against budget and prepare contract forecasts, identification of risks and opportunities to Opex and Capex budgets.
  • Act as a line manager and mentor to Assistant Quantity Surveyors, Graduates and Apprentices and provide on-going support in their professional development.

About you.

  • B.Sc(Hons) in Commercial Management or Quantity Surveying.
  • Member with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS or above), the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (MCInstCES or above) or an equivalent membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Demonstrable experience of contract administration, desirably using NEC forms of contract.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering quantity surveying/commercial functions, preferably in a civil engineering/infrastructure environment.
  • Proficient user of excel and familiarity with contract management and administration software systems (e.g. CEMAR).
