About the practice;

The Light Surgery is based in the heart of Leeds City Centre, and looks after a patient population from across the City.

With a practice population of 13,689 patients, we look to deliver the best patient outcomes and service, focused on promoting wellbeing, delivering planned personalised care, good patient continuity and access to the right care at the right time through innovation.

The Light Surgery is located at Balcony Level, The Light, The Headrow, Leeds LS1 8TL. The Leeds City Centre location and has excellent public transport links, as well as all the amenities a city centre can offer. There is a discounted parking rate offered at Q-Park.

Our practice population is markedly different to most general practices across the rest of Leeds. The majority of our patients are young or of working age, with most 21-40 years of age; though the total age range of our population is 0 - 75 years.

While the majority of patients registered at The Light Surgery fall into the mid deprivation fifth (40% of our patients), 28% of our patients are in the most deprived fifth and come from diverse backgrounds which gives a rewarding and varied workload as a practitioner.

Mental illness is our PCN’s most prevalent long-term condition and we are working in innovative ways as part of the PCN and in partnership with the CCG to develop and deliver new services for patients suffering with their mental health.

Given the demographic it is extremely rare that home visits for patient are ever required and we deliver a large number of appointments via the telephone or video call.

What the team looks like;

We are made up of GPs, Practice Nurses, Health Coaches, Pharmacists, Social Prescribers and Mental Health Workers, with further support from our PCN including First Contact Physiotherapists and Drugs/Alcohol Support in house. Our non-clinician team is made up of our practice’s Business Manager, Senior Administrator, and Receptionist team,  with support from Medical Secretaries and Clinical Coders working in a centralised hub.
