Portsmouth Water are seeking an experienced Finance Business Partner - Wholesale to guide the collaboration between the Finance and Asset functions during a period of change. This role will focus on managing Total Expenditure (TOTEX) and providing financial insights to key stakeholders, including project managers and senior leaders.
The successful candidate will support the Asset Delivery Directorate by ensuring budget holders understand their financials, targets, and regulatory frameworks, while also providing financial challenge and guidance. The Finance Business Partner will play a key role in budget forecasting, ensuring capex positions are accurate, and collaborating with other teams to drive business performance and meet deliverables.
What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
- Guide and manage the relationship between Finance and the Asset functions, ensuring a visible, commercially focused financial view is developed and maintained.
- Drive commercial discussions using financial and non-financial data to inform business decisions.
- Oversee the month-end closing process, ensuring timely completion and engaging with the business in advance to align on key figures.
- Provide insightful financial analysis and strategic advice to business leaders, supporting decision-making at all levels.
- Act as a coach and mentor to junior staff, helping to develop skills and capabilities within the team.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of financial modelling tools in collaboration with the FP&A Manager, ensuring accuracy and integrity.
- Steer the annual budgeting and reforecasting processes, working with business units to deliver accurate and meaningful budgets aligned with non-financial cost drivers and targets.
- Support scenario investigations and modelling to assess the financial impact of potential decisions, risks, opportunities, and regulatory considerations.
- Collaborate with the regulatory financial manager in the 5-year planning cycle and support price reviews and performance assessments throughout the AMP (Asset Management Plan).
- Identify and escalate financial risks and opportunities, providing relevant research to internal stakeholders.

Skills, Qualifications & Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree is desirable
- Qualified Chartered Accountant
- Industry experience
- Inquisitive and Logical thinker
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, must be able to present succinctly to stakeholders.
- Able to think tactically, strategically, and commercially.
- Advanced in Excel, with previous modelling experience using Power BI or equivalent
- A strong self starter
- Organised and able to prioritise own workload
