As a collaborative team member, you will support the Catchment & Environment Management Team across business-as-usual activities, specific commitments, business requirements and project work. Working closely with the Senior Catchment Officer and Catchment Officer, you will help deliver Portsmouth Water’s Catchment Management Strategy. You will also partner with the Biodiversity Specialist to support the Biodiversity Performance Commitment (PC) and the Biodiversity Grant Scheme, contributing directly to the protection and enhancement of our natural environment.
What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
• Support the catchment management team on a wide range of workstreams and projects, including groundwater protection and water quality.
• Support the Biodiversity Specialist on a wide range of workstreams and projects.
• Lead on the Biodiversity grant schemes and assist with the Catchment Payment for Ecosystem Services Scheme (PES), Capital Grants Scheme and Oil Tank Replacement Schemes.
• Support the Biodiversity Performance Commitment.
• Support responses to planning consultations for groundwater protection and water quality issues.
• Support the Implementation of INNS Strategy.
• Lead on and support the catchment and environment team on internal and external communications (Downs and Harbours Clean Water Partnership website, communications with relevant internal departments).
• Support the delivery and documentation of catchment walkovers.
• Represent and support the Catchment and Environment Team in liaising with internal departments and external stakeholders.
• Support and assist in the organisation of catchment and environment team workshops, promotions and trials and events.
• Supporting participation at wider catchment partnership meetings.
• General electronic filing, paper filling, digitising, meeting(s) organisation, minutes and actions.
What do you need?
Skills, Qualifications & Competencies
• A degree (or equivalent) in an environmental discipline or a related discipline
• Knowledge of geology, hydrology and hydrogeology would be desirable.
• Scientific and technical skills in catchment management, water quality and groundwater protection would be desirable
• Biodiversity and conversation knowledge would be desirable
• Administration and organisation skills
• Ability to meet strict deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required
• Ability to work well both in a team and by oneself representing Portsmouth Water in the field
• Full UK driving license required
If you are successful for the role, you will be required to undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) pre-employment checks that will include a basic disclosure check. Depending on the role, you may also be required to go through the national security vetting process for either a CTC or SC clearance check. Any offer of employment is conditional upon completion and receipt of satisfactory checks.
