Your new role
Are you proactive, motivated, professional and friendly? We're looking for someone who is passionate and diligent to join our team as an Apprentice Carpenter in September 2022.
Working as a great team player, you'll assist your mentor in carrying out work to Abri's properties in an efficient and effective manner ensuring that all works are in accordance to a good building maintenance practice.
Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, so it’s very important your customer service skills are top notch - we want to always go above and beyond and amaze our customers with the services we provide.
You’ll have the chance to work across a number of our teams, including Empty Homes, Planned Works, Private Sales and Responsive Repairs.
Your day will include:
- Developing skills and competency relevant to carpentry, assisting trade colleagues and supporting all service areas within the Commercial Services team.
- Understanding health and safety requirements and other relevant legislation and Codes of Practice.
- Being supported by your supervisor and a mentor.
- Attending college and completing all course work on time and to a high standard.
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and driven individual looking to contribute to a dynamic and fast-paced team. A chance to work on properties sites across the south of England, building affordable homes which will provide shelter to those in most housing need.
Does this sound like the opportunity you’ve been looking for? Then we’d love to hear from you!
As part of the application process, the training provider for this apprenticeship may require you to complete further assessments to determine your suitability for the course. Any offer of employment will be subject to passing any required assessments. If necessary, further details will be provided following your application.
Interviews will be held at our office in June 2022 (details to be confirmed).
We’re Abri, a housing association based in the south of England. One of the largest in fact. We've got 35,000 homes and 1,500 colleagues. And if all our 80,000 residents lived in the same place, we’d have a town roughly the size of Guildford.
We’re a passionate bunch. We think we can make a real difference. Homelessness, poverty, inequality, a lack of affordable housing. They’re all linked. They’re issues that affect so many, young and old alike. And we don’t think that’s right. We want to give people the chance to dream big and be who they want to be. Homes are at the heart of everybody’s lives. And we exist to help make good homes, and good lives a reality for everyone.
Apprenticeships at Abri
An apprenticeship is an opportunity to combine practical training with on-the-job experience, all whilst earning a salary!
The majority of your time will be spent alongside experienced colleagues. You’ll learn in the workplace under the guidance of one our brilliant mentors and put your skills into practice. The remainder of your working hours are set aside for training and study related to your role. This usually takes place at a college or with a training provider.
Throughout your apprenticeship you’ll be supported by team who will work with you so that you can achieve your best. As well as your daily support from your mentor, you’ll receive guidance from your supervisor. You’ll also be in regular contact with our dedicated Apprenticeship Coordinator who will support with you with everything - from settling into your role, to coursework and reviews.
There’s a common myth that apprenticeships are only for school leavers starting out in their careers. That’s not true. Our apprenticeships are for everyone and we’d like applications from all ages, backgrounds and different experience.
The great thing about an apprenticeship is that it’s an opportunity to gain skills and experience as you learn. That means we’re less concerned about your experience, or what you’ve studied previously, but instead looking for the passion and qualities that you can bring to the role.
We’ve all got different backgrounds, strengths and experiences. But at Abri, we share the same values. It’s these shared values that bring us together as one team. Our colleagues embrace these every day. Be the difference to our customers and colleagues, always curious and look for better solutions, achieve together by working in partnership with others, own it openly through working with others in an open and honest way, and finally embrace possibility and see changes and challenges as welcomed opportunities.
Whether it’s your first jump into the world of work after leaving education, or you’re looking to make a career change, if you share our values and want to make a real difference in the world, then we’d love to hear from you!
