We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Asset Engineer to join our Assets team in Falkirk or Glasgow. You will:
- play a vital role in ensuring high quality delivery of SC’s internal asset inspection programmes, management of data and communication between key Asset Management Enablers.
- have a proven background in engineering/civils/inspections. The Asset Engineer is an expert on canal infrastructure assets, their interactions and failure modes, and plays a key role in evidence-based prioritising of works and in the continuous development of the Asset Inspectors.
The role is offered on a permanent basis, and with a starting salary of £34,165 (Band D). Working hours 35 hours per week, Monday -Friday.

Primary responsibilities of the role:
- Programming and reviewing regular and high-risk asset inspections.
- Programming and carrying out Intermediate Inspections
- Mentoring and developing asset inspectors
- Providing technical input to mitigation, repair and replacement works
- Ensuring highest level data integrity and assurance for decision making purposes
Qualifications and knowledge required:
- HNC/HND Civil Engineering
- BICS Bridge Inspection qualification
- Membership of appropriate professional body (ICE/IAM etc)
- Mechanical and Electrical engineering fundamentals
- Asset Management principles
- Scottish Canals’ asset base and canal network
- Heritage and Environmental principles
Skills and experience required:
- Civils asset inspections
- Technical reporting
- Previous use of asset management/inspection software
- Work planning/prioritisation
- Ability to explain engineering concepts to non-engineering audience
- Proficient in use of MS office
Qualities & abilities required:
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Full driving licence essential
- Ability and willingness to travel across the whole canal network
- Self-starter and self-motivator
