Job Description

Technical Director

To support our ambitious growth plans, we have a great opportunity to join our Building and Real Estate division. SOCOTEC is the market-leading independent provider of Building Control, and we pride ourselves on being the experts and leading authority on building control within the industry.

You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the technical excellence and continuous professional development of our Building Control team whether we are providing statutory and consultancy services. Your responsibilities will encompass both technical oversight and the design and implementation of training programs to enhance the skill sets of our surveyors.

You will work closely with senior management, surveying employees and external stakeholders to maintain high standards of technical proficiency and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry best practices.

Tasks you will be required to undertake as part of your role include (but are not limited to):

  • Working in accordance with the Building Regulations, Building Act, Building Safety Act & Allied Secondary Legislation, Approved Documents, Building Control Performance Standards and Building Safety Regulators Code of Conduct & associated professional standards
  • Ensure that prospects, proposals and tenders are submitted in accordance with SOCOTEC processes & the Operating Standard Rules
  • Attend and represent the company on professional or technical forums
  • Provide CPD sessions to staff and clients on important technical changes & legal enhancements within the profession
  • This will be a board appointment and you will be registered at Companies House

Technical Oversight:

  • Provide expert technical guidance and support to our Building Control surveying team members across the spectrum of projects undertaken by the business
  • Review the companies project documentation specifications and Quality Management Systems to ensure they align with requirements for us to act as Registered Building Control Approvers
  • Conduct thorough technical reviews of legislation to identify areas for improvement and ensure quality control
  • Stay abreast of industry developments, changes in regulations and emerging technologies to inform best practices & share this with our Building Control team business & external clients

Compliance and Standards:

  • Ensure that all surveying activities adhere to relevant building regulations, codes and industry standards
  • Provide guidance on regulatory compliance issues and support the resolution of technical challenges
  • Develop and maintain internal processes and procedures to promote consistency, efficiency and compliance within the team

Training:

  • Design, develop and implement comprehensive training programs for surveying team members to enhance their technical skills, knowledge and professional development
  • Assist with the development of our apprentice programme

  • Membership of RICS, CABE or equivalent (or qualified by suitable experience) ensuring CPD requirements are met thereafter to broaden and develop skills. Ideally demonstrating compliance through registering as an RBI Level 3H & 4
  • Experience in a similar role
  • Good IT Skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Ability to build relationships with clients and deliver excellent client care
  • A self-starting attitude and an ability to work independently as well as part of a large team
  • Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, development of suitable solutions and the implementation of these solutions
