Field Crew Operative (Water Quality)

The Role
We are seeking a Field Crew Operative (Water Quality) to join our team based in Leeds, working on water quality monitoring projects across the UK and occasionally in Ireland. In this role, you will primarily focus on water quality fieldwork, including the installation, calibration, and maintenance of water quality monitoring equipment, such as flow monitors, auto-samplers, and water quality sensors.
Your contributions will play a key part in providing critical data that helps manage wastewater networks, monitor pollution levels, and improve the health of rivers and bathing waters. Your work will assist water companies and environmental agencies in achieving their regulatory compliance goals and improving water quality in local communities.
Typical Day of a Field Crew Operative
Your typical day will involve working on various water quality projects, which include:
- Installing and maintaining water quality monitoring equipment in rivers, sewer systems, and other environmental sites
- Calibration of monitoring equipment and ensuring it is functioning properly to provide accurate data
- Collecting water samples from various sites for analysis, ensuring that samples are handled and stored according to quality standards
- Retrieving and logging data from monitoring equipment and ensuring it is recorded and maintained accurately
- Occasionally assisting with wastewater monitoring tasks, helping to install, calibrate, and maintain equipment used in wastewater management projects
- Ensuring health and safety procedures are strictly followed, especially in confined spaces and river environments
- Carrying and setting up equipment safely and efficiently
You’ll be working with your team to ensure all tasks are completed to the highest standards, and you will need to maintain a proactive and positive approach, especially when faced with challenging environments.
Field Crew Operative Requirements
- Flexibility with hours and working away from home is essential (accommodation and meals paid for by the company)
- A flexible approach to weekend work is essential, as well as occasional night shifts
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a variety of changing environments
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and the initiative to solve problems
- Comfort working around raw sewage and in confined spaces
- Full, clean, and valid UK driving licence
- Right to work in the UK

Full training will be provided, so you don’t need previous experience in the sector, but any background in a similar environment is a plus.
Our head office is in Leeds, and the ideal locations for successful candidates will be in or near the Leeds, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Barnsley, and Doncaster areas.
