Who we’re looking for

The Star Institute – the learning and development centre of Star Academies - is seeking a skilled and experienced leader who is passionate about making a difference to the lives of children and young people through teacher training and development. This post will involve responsibility for the Institute’s SCITT and its hubs, and for wider teacher development in schools both within and outside of the Trust. Star Teachers SCITT is highly successful. It was judged to be Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted in 2019, now trains over 100 trainees annually, operates across two hubs in the North West and West Midlands and has four full time staff and more than 10 part time tutors. We are looking to recruit an exceptional leader of teacher development who can take our provision to the next level, including, in the eventuality of our joint bid for the new national Institute of Teaching being selected by the DfE, leading on the design and delivery of this exciting provision.

You will be responsible for maintaining and exceeding the high standards of quality already achieved in the Star Institute’s teacher development provision. You will take a lead in growing and sustaining our ITT and teacher development programmes through opening new Hubs and engaging in partnership arrangements on a local, regional and national basis. You will engage positively and creatively with school leaders to help shape the provision and ensure that it meets schools’ needs and priorities. You will ensure that SCITT trainees and participants in the Institute’s teacher development programmes are fully supported in their learning and consistently experience a rich and rewarding developmental experience with successful outcomes.

The successful applicant will be an aspirational and enthusiastic professional who is seeking to experience the additional responsibilities and challenges of a senior role within an organisation that is at the forefront of national sector developments

  • An ability to inspire teachers, trainees, mentors, centrally-based staff, partners and school senior leaders;
  • a track record of success as a leader of multi-school ITT and teacher development with demonstrable outcomes
  • Knowledge of current policy and provision in ITT and teacher development;
  • A willingness to embrace challenging targets for your personal professional development and for those 2 whom you manage; and
  •  Full commitment to our vision and values
