Thirteen Group is on the lookout for an Environmental Services Manager

You’ll manage our specialised contractors for arboriculture, pest control, and environmental services, while leading the successful delivery of our estates compliance functions.

This is a roam role where you will need to work closely with various internal colleagues/teams to meet service needs from our fantastic office at Hudson Quay in Middlesbrough.

You’ll have autonomy to plan your time and manage your workload while ensuring you stay visible and connected to teams. We’ll need you to be flexible around business and service needs, so you may need to come into the office or visit sites more frequently when required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 8 direct reports responsible for pest control, invasive species management and arboriculture services, including Urban Rangers, an Arb Surveyor, Arb Operatives and a Pest Control Co-ordinator. You’ll ensure thorough estate inspections and quality control measures are in place.
  • Manage pest control contractors and proactively work with internal teams on preventative and prompt actions.
  • Manage environmental health risks including pests, invasive species, sustainable drainage management, fly-tipping enforcement, and safety standards.
  • Provide expert technical guidance on pest control, arborist and environmental issues, ensuring compliance with legal and safety standards.
  • Build strong, influential partnerships with local authorities and environmental health teams, collaborating on enforcement, statutory investigations, and community environmental matters.
  • Shape, instigate and support projects that enhance safety standards, customer experience, and the overall appearance of our neighbourhoods.


About You:

  • You’ll bring solid knowledge of pest control and arboriculture. Your operational experience may come from environmental health, estate compliance, arboriculture, housing, or facilities management.
  • A fantastic people manager, with the ability to lead high performing teams, set clear direction, and shape culture to deliver consistent, quality outcomes.
  • Proven experience of managing contractors, service delivery schedules and operational activity within a compliance or environmental services setting.
  • An effective understanding of statutory compliance and health and safety of environmental health and arborist safety standards.
  • As a champion of continuous improvement and innovation, you’ll use data-driven insights and digital tools to innovate and enhance services, provide business intelligence to support the wider business in providing excellent services.
  • Exceptional communication and partnership working skills and someone who brings about positive change in collaboration with customers, colleagues and external partners.
