Internal Communications Manager (Change and Transformation) - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Salary: c. £27,000 per annum

Hours: 21 hours per week (3 days a week)

Contract: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Location: Hybrid - Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the office, 1 day remote (Head Office: West Bromwich)

The Internal Communications Manager of Change and Transformation will play a pivotal role in planning, managing, and delivering internal communications for Making Tomorrow.

Making Tomorrow is our new strategy programme, which consists of 5 pillars, one of which is digital transformation. This new role requires a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills, capable of engaging stakeholders, collaborating across the Project Management Office (PMO), and creating effective feedback loops to measure engagement and effectiveness of communications to colleagues.

The Internal Communications Manager will report directly to the Head of Marketing and work closely with the PMO, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Chief People Office (CPO) and external parties.


What the role will look like:

Strategic planning and management

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive internal communications strategy for the Making Tomorrow strategy programme.
  • Ensure alignment of communications with the programme's objectives and timelines.
  • Monitor and adjust the strategy as needed to address emerging challenges and opportunities.
  • Maintain regular communication with stakeholders to ensure their needs and concerns are addressed.
  • Work closely with the PMO to understand project milestones, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Ensure seamless communication between the PMO and other departments.
  • Provide regular updates to the PMO, CPO, and other key stakeholders on communication activities and outcomes.

Internal Messaging

  • Be able to gather information and insight and turn it into a compelling and engaging story which informs and excites all our colleagues about the Making tomorrow programme.
  • Create and distribute all internal messaging and communications from scratch and broadcast them effectively across the appropriate channels, including emails, intranet, newsletters, and town halls.
  • Ensure messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned with the programme's goals, and tailor communications to different audiences within the Society.
  • Foster collaboration between different departments to ensure cohesive communication. Act as a liaison between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.

Cultural alignment and employee engagement

  • Promote a culture that embraces change and innovation.
  • Develop campaigns to highlight success stories and positive impacts of the transformation.
  • Implement initiatives to boost employee engagement and morale during the transformation.
  • Use surveys and feedback tools to gauge employee sentiment and adjust communication strategies accordingly.
  • Develop mechanisms to gather feedback from employees regarding the digital transformation.
  • Plan and organise town halls, key communication events, and other forums to engage employees.


What you will bring to the role:

  • Proven experience of working in an internal comms focused role within a significant transformation and change programme.
  • Familiar with change and transformation methodologies and ways of working e.g. Agile
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with good storytelling ability.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in using communication tools and platforms.
  • Ability to grasp technical systems, processes and outputs and create simplified yet engaging communications across a range of channels
  • Creativity and innovation.
  • Able to gather insight and information independently to build up knowledge and be able to understand what needs to be communicated, when, and to who.
