We have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Officer at Advance. Advance is a specialist supported housing association that is on an exciting journey to deliver more services and develop more housing for people with learning difficulties, disabilities and supporting people towards greater independent living.

About the role of a Finance Officer:

  • Provide good customer service to all internal and external customers of the financial function.
  • Able to focus on transactional finance work on one or more of the ledgers dealing with Sales, Purchases, Rent, the Cash and Bank ledgers or Payroll and Expenses.
  • Ensure that transactions are processed so that we record what we are owed by our customers, what we owe to our suppliers, that we are able to calculate what our bank balances are and that our employees are paid correctly.
  • Before making any payments you will ensure that the transactions have been authorised by the appropriate people within Advance and/or our connected companies and that the costs are properly incurred in accordance with our policies and procedures.
  • Issue sales invoice, notices and reports to enable our customers to know what they owe us and our suppliers and our employees to know what we have paid them.
  • Respond to any queries received within the section concerning the ledgers or payroll or expenses processes that we maintain.
  • Maintain the records of our standing data: authorized people, their financial limits, standing orders, direct debits, cash floats and credit and debit card holders; employee data. So that we know can understand and control transactions from these sources.
  • Identify and assist in the improvement of processes to improve efficiency.
  • Follow current finance regulations and policies and procedures in all areas of your work.
  • Provide cover for other members of the team as and when required, as directed by managers within the Finance team.

About the you:

  • Ideally have AAT or equivalent qualifications
  • Have experience in transactional finance work
  • Experience of using accounting softwear packages
  • Ability to type at 60 words per minute or faster
  • Have intermediary level skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook & Excel
  • Have a GCSE Maths & English Grade C or above (or equivalent)
