Job Description

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is looking for people to become Reserve Fire Crew (RFC) to help keep local people safe in the event of industrial action by Firefighters.  This is to ensure that the Fire & Rescue Authority meets its legal obligations under the Fire & Rescue Services Act 2004 and Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

Selected applicants will be trained in basic fire and rescue service techniques ahead of any potential industrial action. We will be recruiting for:

Driver/Pump Operator

You must be Category C LGV qualified. Training in Emergency Fire Appliance Driving (EFAD) will be provided.

​​​​​​​Pay:  £20.00 per hour during any period of training

​​​​​​​         £250.00 for each operational shift or part shift worked of up to 12 hours.

Fire & Rescue Operative

Previous experience of using Respiratory Protection Equipment would be an advantage but is not essential as full training and equipment to undertake the role will be provided. 

Pay: £15.00 per hour during any period of training

        £225.00 for each operational shift or part shift worked of up to 12 hours.

Contract type: For both roles, you will be required to work on a zero hours contract and only attend for work when required.  There will be no guarantee of future work as these roles are specifically to cover the possibility of industrial action.

​​​​​​​Retention Payment for both roles

A retention payment of £250 per month will be offered for continued availability, engagement and attendance at a minimum of 1 maintenance of skill training day per month - attendance on these dates will be paid at the current reservist training rate. 

Considering the demanding nature of a fire and rescue service, preference will be given to applicants who have experience of working in a safety critical role and/or those who have worked in a disciplined environment. You must be medically and physically fit and a fitness test will be an integral part of our selection process.

Assessment Day

Assessment days will take place on 3, 6, 17 and 24 February 2023.

Training Courses

 15 February 2023 - 24 February 2023 (8 days)
