Head Arborist: Grade S.O1, SCP 27 – 33 (£40,980 - £49,420)
A Relocation Package is available to assist successful off-Island applicant(s) relocating from the UK.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to lead our Arborist team and deliver a high-quality arboriculture service across the City. As Head Arborist, you will be responsible for managing a team of professionals undertaking a full range of arboricultural operations, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards. The role includes planning and programming work schedules, maintaining accurate records, liaising with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.
The successful candidate will be an effective leader with strong communication and organisational skills and significant experience in arboriculture, including tree inspections, risk assessments, climbing, pruning, and the use of specialist equipment. Previous supervisory or management experience is essential. You must be computer literate and capable of managing operational documentation and reporting. The role requires a high level of physical fitness and a willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions, as well as flexibility to work outside normal working hours when required. A full, clean driving licence and relevant certifications are essential.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
Diploma, National Diploma or HND in Arboriculture or equivalent
Experience of undertaking tree surveys with the ability to draw up risk assessments
Extensive experience in Arboriculture, including tree climbing, pruning and planting
An NPTC Certificate in pesticide application
Knowledge of the common diseases affecting trees and an ability to recognise common diseases
Ability to lead a team and work effectively, independently and as part of a team
Ability to complete and keep accurate up-to-date records
Knowledge of safe manual handling techniques and ability to carry out manual handling operations
Good communication skills and the ability to deal courteously and fairly with the public
Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety Regulations
Computer skills
Full clean valid driving licence
Desirable
An understanding of the operations and functions of a local authority
Experience of working within a local authority dealing with tress/Arboriculture issues
Experience in the use of elevating platform/hoist equipment.
- A full LGV or HGV driving licence.
