Human Resources Officer

Hours: 37 hours, 5 days per week. Grade: SO2 (SPC: 30 – 36) £45,313 - £53,153

We are seeking a highly motivated, pro-active and experienced professional to join our HR team as a Human Resources Officer. In this role, you will be collaborative with the existing HR Officer to support the Assistant Chief Officer (HR) in delivering an effective and comprehensive HR service.

You will provide advice and guidance to managers on the application of HR policies and procedures. You will ensure solutions incorporate statutory, regulatory requirements and best practice standards to meet the needs of the Council. You must be able to manage absence, disciplinary, grievance and capability procedures with professionalism, confidentially and due diligence.

If you are educated to degree level or equivalent (CIPD Level 5), have significant experience in handling core HR processes with a strong attention to detail and have the ability to interpret employment legislation and advise on its implications, then we would welcome an application from you.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  1. Educated to Degree level or equivalent (CIPD Level 5)
  2. Relevant experience in an HR environment providing generalist advice and support
  3. Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively at all levels and with a range of stakeholders
  4. Strong attention to detail, with strong organisational and time management skills
  5. Ability and commitment to improving HR services though continuous improvement
  6. An understanding of the statutory framework, policies and service including knowledge of and ability to interpret and advise on employment legislation and potential implications
  7. Collaborative team player with a high standard of interpersonal skills, ability to deal with sensitive issues, confidential matters and manage expectations and conflicting priorities/interests
  8. Ability to act on own initiative in a pressurised environment and make difficult decisions
  9. Proven ability to prepare correspondence, report and compile information to a high standard
  10. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word/Excel

Desirable

  1. Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
  2. Understanding of local government environment
  3. An understanding of the operations and functions of a local authority
  4. Knowledge of the Council’s Standing Orders, Financial Regulations and the Isle of Man Government Procedures for Capital Projects (including requirements for Petitioning purposes).
  5. Political sensitivity
