Disability Confident Scheme

Disability Confident Scheme

When applying for a role with Electricity North West, if an applicant has a disability covered by the definition outlined within the Equality Act 2010 and can demonstrate in their application that they meet the ‘essential criteria’ needed to fulfil the role, as described in the advert they are guaranteed an interview for the job for which they are applying, through our Disability Confident scheme (formerly known as the Guaranteed Interview Scheme).

Under the Equality Act 2010, a disabled person is someone who has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on that person’s ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.

As an equal opportunities and disability confident employer, we encourage applications from people who consider themselves to have a disability falling within that broad definition.

Access to the Disability Confident scheme simply requires an applicant with a disability to:

  • Show they meet the essential criteria required for the role

  • Answer ‘yes’ to the question ‘Do you wish to be considered under the Disability Confident Scheme?’ in Electricity North West’s application form

Our Recruitment Team can assistance to any applicant with a disability who needs help in completing an application. You can contact our team on 0845 366 0092 (option 2) or by emailing careers@enwl.co.uk

The Disability Confident scheme only guarantees an interview – it does not automatically mean that applicants interviewed will gain employment with Electricity North West at that time and interview feedback will be given to each candidate individually.

It is important to note that there may be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview applicants that have opted into the Disability Confident Scheme and meet the minimum criteria for the job. For example: in certain recruitment situations; high number of applications, seasonal and high-peak times etc we may limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both candidates with and without a disability.

In these circumstances we will select the disabled candidates who best meet the minimum criteria for the job rather than all that meet the minimum criteria, as we would for non-disabled applicants.
