About the role

Looking for a teaching role where your musical skills influence pupils across an entire island, not just one school?

As a Teacher of Upper Strings with the Isle of Man Music Service, you will deliver engaging instrumental lessons across primary and secondary schools from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5. You will teach individuals, small groups and whole classes, prepare pupils for graded examinations and GCSE and A Level Music, and support performances, promotional concerts and Music Service events that help pupils grow and perform with confidence.

You will work within a focused and collaborative Music Service that puts pupils’ musical education first. Alongside specialist colleagues and service leaders, you will contribute to a professional culture that values strong subject knowledge, reflective practice and meaningful performance opportunities, including the Manx Youth Orchestra Ensembles and Children’s Choir. If you want your teaching to make a lasting and visible impact across the Isle of Man, apply today.

A workplace that invests in you

A competitive salary that increases each 12 months until you reach the salary maximum.

Subject to meeting eligibility criteria, you will be offered two pensions arrangements: the Teachers Superannuation scheme or the Isle of Man Government Defined Contribution (DC) arrangement.

If you are returning to the island and have participated in the Department’s Student Loan scheme for tuition fees, the loan will be repaid by the Department upon completion of your second year working as a teacher at one of the island’s schools. The repayment is subject to a maximum of £7,500 for a three year degree course or £10,000 for a four year degree course, and the requirements detailed in the Teacher Loan Cancellation Policy.

For those returning to the island after graduating from university, you will receive a refund on your national insurance contributions during the first 12 months of your employment, up to £4,400.

Access to the Isle of Man Public Service Cycle to Work scheme after your first year of employment.

Access to the Learning, Education and Development training facility, which is exclusively for Public Service employees, to keep on top of your continuous professional development.

Free access to the Isle of Man Government Staff Welfare Service which offers professional counselling, emotional support and signposting on a wide range of issues.

Discounted access to the NSC gym and island swimming pools as well as 1-to-1 support programmes and exercise classes with qualified instructors through the ACTIV8 scheme.

You may be eligible for a Blue Light Card, unlocking a wide range of exclusive discounts on shopping, food and leisure activities at hundreds of popular high street and online retailers.

Free on-site car parking.
