About the role
A unique opportunity to work at the heart of the Island’s constitutional and ceremonial life.
Government House is seeking a highly professional, practical and adaptable Deputy House Manager / Butler-Chauffeur to join its small and dedicated team.
This is a hands-on operational role, combining responsibility for supervising and coordinating household staff with practical duties across the House and grounds. You will be expected to lead by example and be directly involved in preparing for official functions, undertaking household and property tasks, supporting logistical arrangements and driving His Excellency and other authorised passengers.
Driving is a significant and regular part of the role, and you must have substantial driving experience and be confident in providing a professional and discreet service to senior officials and VIPs.
The role offers considerable variety. From preparing Government House for an official reception, to responding to an unexpected operational issue, overseeing contractors, maintaining vehicles or assisting with the practical running of the House, no two days are likely to be the same.
We are looking for someone who is practical, organised, dependable and discreet, with excellent judgement and a genuine willingness to get involved and make things happen. Experience in hospitality, household management, property/facilities, events, transport or a similar operational environment would be advantageous.
The role requires flexibility, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, and participation in an on-call rota. Flexible working arrangements are available within the requirements of the role.
If you are someone who takes pride in high standards, enjoys a varied working environment and is comfortable combining leadership with practical, hands-on work, we would like to hear from you.
Potential candidates are strongly encouraged to get in touch to talk about the role.
