Job Advert
"These are not traditional management positions. They are pivotal roles that will help shape the future direction of the Harbours Division.
The Ports Maintenance Manager will take ownership of a significant and diverse portfolio of marine infrastructure, helping drive investment, asset management and infrastructure improvements across the Island.
What makes these opportunities particularly exciting is the breadth of responsibility. Unlike many larger organisations where roles can become highly specialised, these positions provide exposure to everything from strategic planning and major projects to operational leadership and stakeholder engagement."
- David Gooberman, Director of Harbours
About the role
The Isle of Man is investing in the long-term future of its ports and harbour infrastructure. The Ports Maintenance Manager role is a rare opportunity for an experienced infrastructure professional to lead the management, maintenance and development of a diverse portfolio of marine assets that are critical to the Island's economy, connectivity and resilience.
Take ownership of harbour infrastructure across an entire island nation! From commercial ports and marinas to breakwaters, quays, slipways and specialist marine facilities, you will help shape how assets are maintained, enhanced and prepared for the future.
A unique and varied portfolio, where no two days are the same.
You will oversee infrastructure across the Isle of Man's network of eight statutory harbours, along with associated marine assets and operational facilities.
The scope includes:
• Strategic asset management
• Infrastructure planning and investment
• Capital project delivery
• Marine civil engineering
• Contract and supplier management
• Leadership of maintenance teams
• Emergency response and operational resilience
Working at the heart of the Island's ports network, you will play a key role in shaping future investment decisions and delivering significant infrastructure projects that directly support the Island's economy, lifeline ferry services and maritime industries.
Influence major infrastructure investment
This is an opportunity to have a visible and lasting impact, with decisions you make influencing the future development of the Isle of Man's ports for decades to come.
Working alongside senior leaders within the Department of Infrastructure, you will help develop and deliver multi-million-pound maintenance and capital programmes, providing expert advice on asset condition, lifecycle planning and future requirements.
The decisions you make will help guide investment priorities and the continued evolution of the Isle of Man's ports and harbour infrastructure
A career and lifestyle opportunity
The Isle of Man offers something increasingly difficult to find: the opportunity to lead significant infrastructure programmes while enjoying a fantastic work-life balance.
Within minutes of leaving work, you can be enjoying coastal walks, cycling, sailing, paddleboarding or exploring the Island's outstanding natural environment. Commute times are short, communities are welcoming and the quality of life is exceptional.
The Island combines the pace and professional challenge of major infrastructure projects with a lifestyle that enables more time for family, hobbies and the outdoors. This is a rare opportunity to manage and shape the infrastructure of an entire national ports network from a single leadership role.
