Who are we looking for?

We are searching for a future-focused, influential and knowledgeable Executive Director to lead our Crown and External Relations Directorate in the Cabinet Office.

You will have the tenacity, drive and expertise to directly advise the CEO and Chief Minister, enabling them to lead the Island’s external affairs. You will also advise the Lieutenant Governor on matters relevant to the Crown.

It is vital for the Island to sustain strong international relationships around the world, and this role is integral to continuing to strengthen our strong international profile and promoting the Island’s reputation.

If you have the skills to influenceengage and negotiate with partners and leaders across the UK, Europe and globally in the best interests of the Island, then this could be the role for you.

How will you make an impact?

The Island is facing considerable pressures and potentially challenging times ahead. You will play a crucial part in promoting the Island’s reputation and position in this important work.

Within this fascinating role you will work with governments, organisations, parliaments and policymakers in the UK, Europe and around the world, to raise the Island’s profile, help the economy and contribute towards social responsibility. You will lead four key functions responsible for the Island’s reputation and position: External Relations, Crown & Elections, Government House and Communications.

You will identify ways to ensure that the Island’s interests are properly promoted and defended, and ensure external and constitutional affairs are conducted effectively both at home and abroad. You will need to successfully build and manage a wide range of national and international connections, as well as your own teams, so your expertise and personal credibility will need to be matched by your abilities as a senior leader to be able to engage, inspire and empower others.

The role will involve a significant amount of travel. Traditionally, the role is based in Government Office, Douglas; candidates interested in a London base combined with regular presence in the Isle of Man will also be considered.
