About the role
Castle Rushen High School is seeking a Generalist teacher with experience in Boys’ PE, to provide and promote, through implementation of the policies of the DESC and the school, high standards of learning and teaching throughout the school age range.

The post holder will initially be willing and able to teach classes across KS3 and KS4, and possess the skills to deliver high quality, creative lessons and support to ensure great development for learners.  You will deliver a range of subject lessons, including Quest (our unique cross-curricular Enquiry Based Learning programme), Life Skills, Health & Social Care, cover as required, plus Boys’ PE. Initially, 40% of your timetable will be focused on PE. 

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in, or the potential for excellence in, the teaching of the subjects, and have the capacity to effectively lead the personalised learning of all students in ways that enable them to successfully reach their potential attainment levels.

Subject to meeting eligibility criteria, you will be offered two pensions arrangements, the Teachers Superannuation scheme or the Isle of Man Government Defined Contribution (DC) arrangement.

If you are returning to the island and have participated in the Department’s Student Loan scheme for tuition fees, the loan will be repaid by the Department upon completion of your second year working as a teacher at one of the island’s schools (subject to a maximum of £7,500 for a three year degree course, or £10,000 for a four year degree course).

If you are in your first year as an Early Careers Teacher, you are entitled to two recruitment and retention payments of £2,000 each at the beginning of your second and third full years in teaching.

Financial support to get you, your family and your belongings, including one motor vehicle to the Isle of Man. We will pay 70% of any removal or storage costs incurred. 

Help to pay your rent/mortgage while you settle in with a housing allowance up to £500 per month over 2 years. 

If you are relocating to the Isle of Man, you will receive financial help towards the costs of visiting to the Island to view housing and to visit your new school. You are eligible to receive up to £325 each for you and your partner and, if applicable, £140 each for up to 2 dependent children. 

A subject shortage allowance of up to £500 a month for a maximum of 8 months if you are offered a permanent position in a Maths, English or Science teaching position (without TLR).

 Access to the Isle of Man Public Service Cycle to Work scheme after your first year of employment.

 Access to the Learning, Education and Development training facility, which is exclusively for Public Service employees, to keep on top of your continuous professional development.

 Free access to the Isle of Man Government Staff Welfare Service which offers professional counselling, emotional support and sign-posting on a wide range of issues.

 Discounted access to the NSC gym and island swimming pools as well as 1-to-1 support programmes and exercise classes with qualified instructors through the ACTIV8 scheme.

 Free on-site car parking.

A relocation package based on receipts is available for this role.
