The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency with its own parliament, government and laws. Her Majesty's Attorney General and Her Majesty's Solicitor General (the Crown Officers) are appointed by Her Majesty the Queen and hold office during her Majesty's pleasure.

The Attorney General’s Chambers is the office which supports the roles of the Crown Officers. HM Attorney General, supported by Chambers, is responsible for drafting Bills for introduction into the Legislature.

HM Attorney General’s Chambers is currently recruiting for a Chief Legislative Drafter, who will lead a team of Senior Drafters. Together with your team, you will be responsible for the delivery of the work of the Primary Drafting Division of Chambers which will include delivery of the Isle of Man Government’s Legislative Programme and Private Members Bills.

In addition to leading the team you will be personally responsible for drafting a portfolio of primary law required to support the delivery of the Programme. You will be required to provide legal advice to Departments, Boards and Offices, which might include liaison with politicians, Chief Officers, Policy Officers and other officers drafting secondary legislation, with the overriding aim of supporting sound policy development and translation of that policy into high quality Primary law.
