About the role and our team

Join the Isle of Man Music Service as an enthusiastic, engaging and committed Teacher of Upper Strings Instruments to work with our young musicians in primary and secondary schools across the Island.

We are a small, professional, friendly and creative team serving every school on the Island as well as running our very popular Saturday morning Manx Youth Orchestra activities, featuring a range of bands, orchestras and ensembles. You will have the opportunity to lead or conduct one of these groups. The ability to offer tuition on a range of stringed instruments will be advantageous.

We teach students in small groups or individually and are inclusive in our approach from the beginner stage through to advanced levels. We work closely with our partner secondary schools to ensure pupils are well prepared for GCSE and A Level Music and pupils follow progressive schemes of work that also prepare them for ABRSM and Trinity examinations as well as our own assessment system for early grades. Many of our students are keen to pursue their music studies post 18 through universities or conservatoires and we support them in the application process.

Music making is an important aspect of Island life and you will find many opportunities to become involved with a wide range of genres within a lively arts scene.

What can this role offer me?

The Music Service is very committed to supporting teachers' career development at every stage and has a successful record of mentoring musicians new to the teaching profession through their Initial Teacher Training which can be undertaken locally through the University College Isle of Man. More experienced teachers will also benefit from a comprehensive range of CPD opportunities available locally and further afield.
