About the role
Are you interested in the Island’s Heritage? Would you relish the opportunity to develop yourself, learn some traditional skills and work at some of the Island’s most historic sites?
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, capable and adaptable person to work within our Sites and Monuments Maintenance Team. This small team sits within The Properties Management Division – one of the four main divisions of Manx National Heritage (MNH).
The Properties remit of MNH covers the widest possible variety of buildings and almost 3000 acres of land. It ranges from historic castles, the Great Laxey Wheel and the National Folk Village at Cregneash to the more modern House of Manannan, the Manx Museum with its galleries, stores, workplaces and national archive along with four cafes/restaurants.
The work of the Sites and Monuments Team is varied and ranges across the vast majority of our sites. As such, you will have the opportunity to work on activities including:
- Thatching in the traditional Manx style
- Fencing and vegetation control at ancient monument sites and open land holdings
- Basic arboricultural work
- Minor building repairs
- Masonry repairs using traditional lime mortars
