Quality Assurance Technician
The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for supporting the effective implementation and maintenance of Steadmans’ Quality Management System and ensuring that manufactured finish products meet defined quality, customer, regulatory and business requirements. The role provides hands-on quality support across manufacturing operations, focusing on product inspection and testing, process compliance, non-conformance management, root-cause investigation and continual improvement.
What you will be doing:
- Carry out routine inspection, measurement and testing of raw materials, work-in-progress and finished products against specifications, drawings and quality standards.
- Complete quality checks across manufacturing processes.
- Verify product dimensions, profile, finish, coating, packaging and other specified product characteristics.
- Record inspection and test results accurately and maintain appropriate quality records.
- Identify, quarantine and report non-conforming materials or products.
- Raise and support investigation of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and ensure corrective actions are progressed and verified.
- Support investigations into internal defects, customer concerns, and product quality concerns using appropriate root-cause analysis techniques.
- Work with other departments to implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor manufacturing processes and highlight trends or recurring quality issues before they result in customer concerns.
- Assist with incoming material inspections and supplier quality concerns.
- Support calibration and verification of measuring and testing equipment and maintain associated records.
- Ensure inspection and measuring equipment is suitable, available and correctly controlled.
- Support internal audits and external certification or customer audits.
- Promote a right-first-time quality culture across manufacturing operations.
- Provide practical quality guidance to production employees and supervisors.
- Participate in continuous-improvement activities aimed at reducing defects, waste, rework, damage and customer concerns.
- Maintain high standards of health & safety, housekeeping (GMP) and professional conduct when working within manufacturing areas.
What you will bring:
Essential
- Experience within a manufacturing, engineering or quality environment.
- Good understanding of quality inspection and measurement techniques.
- Ability to interpret specifications, drawings and manufacturing requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify product or process deviations.
- Good problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and produce clear quality reports.
- Confident communicating quality issues with production teams and management.
- Competent with Microsoft Office and electronic quality or production systems.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to the wider Quality team.
Desirable
- Experience within manufacturing.
- Knowledge and practical understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
- Internal auditor training or experience.
- Understanding of NCR, structured root-cause analysis methodologies such as 5 Why.
- Experience using dimensional and other quality inspection equipment.
- Knowledge of relevant construction-product standards and certification requirements.
- SAP knowledge.
