Volunteer With Us

Our Volunteers are at the heart of the care St Gemma's provides

More than 800 volunteers make a difference across St Gemma's Hospice, helping us provide expert care and support to local patients and their families. Volunteers contribute their time, skills and enthusiasm in a wide variety of roles, from supporting patients and visitors at the Hospice, to raising vital funds in our shops, at events and in the community.

Whether you're looking to give back to your local community, meet new people, learn new skills, gain experience, or share the expertise you've built throughout your career, there's a volunteering opportunity for you.

Our volunteers support every area of St Gemma’s, from welcoming visitors and supporting patients and families at the Hospice, to raising vital funds in the community and helping in our charity shops and Retail Hub. They also maintain our gardens, provide administrative and specialist support, share valuable professional skills and expertise, and serve as Trustees, helping to guide and govern the charity. Together, they make an invaluable contribution to the care and support we provide across Leeds.

Our retail volunteers play a vital role in raising funds that help support patient care across St Gemma’s Hospice. Opportunities include serving customers, sorting and preparing donations, merchandising stock, supporting our Retail Hub operations, driving vans, and helping identify valuable items for resale. Teams can assist with practical projects, support retail and warehouse activities, help prepare donated stock, and contribute to initiatives that directly benefit hospice services. It is a rewarding way for organisations to make a meaningful impact while developing teamwork and community connections.
