Job Description

We are looking for a proactive and highly organised Router / Operations Assistant to support the efficient and safe operation of our depot. This role is key to ensuring the effective planning of transport operations, managing drivers and vehicles, and delivering excellent customer service while maintaining the highest Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) standards. You will work closely with the Depot Manager, Operations, Transport and HSE teams to ensure daily routing plans, driver management, and depot operations run smoothly, efficiently, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong Health & Safety culture in line with company Safety First principles.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal and external HSE legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct vehicle spot checks and planned inspections (daily, weekly, monthly).
  • Champion improvements in operational procedures to enhance safety and efficiency.
  • Plan and manage daily routing of drivers and vehicles, including ferry arrangements where required.
  • Forward plan truck and driver availability and manage transport schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with ADR, CPC, tachograph, and Working Time Directive regulations.
  • Coordinate vehicle servicing, maintenance, MOTs, ADR inspections and defect management.
  • Monitor and analyse routing and tachograph data, addressing inconsistencies.
  • Ensure accurate system data entry including stocks, sales confirmations, mileage, and working hours.
  • Respond to customer enquiries regarding deliveries, products, and routing information.
  • Ensure delivery plans meet customer service requirements.
  • Monitor actual vs planned volumes, kilometres, and driver hours against budget.
  • Support transport cost control and depot performance targets.
  • Achieve assigned transport KPIs in collaboration with Operations and HSE teams.
  • Manage day-to-day driver performance, attendance, payroll administration, and debriefs.
