Supporting your career from the very first step

We work hard to help people like you make the most of your career with us. It’s a constant feature of working at CrossReach â€“ ongoing support and guidance at every step of the way. And it all starts here.

So, if you have any questions about our roles, your application or any additional support you might need to get started, please email recruitment.team@crossreach.org.uk and we’ll be happy to help in any way we can.

Until then, you can find the answers to some common questions below.

Frequently asked Questions

Christian Ethos

Do I need to be a Christian to work for CrossReach?
addremove

No, many of our roles do not require you to be a Christian. However, for some of our roles you are required to demonstrate a Christian faith. This will be made clear on the job advertisement and you can find out more on the 'Our Culture' page.

How do I prove my faith?
addremove

If you apply for a role that requires a Christian Commitment, we will ask you to demonstrate this in your application and your interview. We will also ask you to provide a reference from someone who can testify to your Christian faith. Find out more on the 'Our Culture' page.

Do I need to go to church?
addremove

No, you don’t need to go to church - only that you can demonstrate a faith if the role requires it.

Application Requirements

Yes. We’re not licensed to sponsor work visas, so you need the right to work in the UK before you can apply. You can find out more on the UK government website.

When do you need an overseas check?
addremove

If you are a non UK national you will need to provide a translated criminal record certificate, where available, from any country (excluding the UK) where you have lived for 12 months or more (whether continuous or in total), in the past 10 years whilst aged 18 or over. These are complicated and depend on the country where you lived, though we can help you with the process. You can find out more on the UK government website.

Will I need to an overseas check from every country I have lived in?
addremove

Yes – from any country in which you’ve lived for more than six months, in the last five years.

Can I apply if I have a criminal conviction?
addremove

Yes. You may need to declare convictions on your application, and we will discuss it at interview and ask for more information during the pre-employment checks. However, we take a risk-based approach and will always talk to you about your background before making any decisions.

Job Requirements

I don't have any care experience. Can I still work for CrossReach?
addremove

Absolutely. Many of roles don’t require care experience, as our training will equip you with the skills to get started. What’s vital is that you bring compassion, enthusiasm and empathy, with the drive to do the best for those in our care.

Do I need to be able to drive?
addremove

A few of our roles require a current, clean driving licence, but most don’t. If a role requires you to drive, this will be clear in the advertisement.

Do I need an SVQ qualification?
addremove

Most of our care roles do require an SVQ level 3, but you don’t need this to apply, as we can help you achieve it when you join us. Some of our senior roles require various relevant qualifications, but this will be clear in the advert.

Do I need to have PVG Membership and disclosure?
addremove

All our roles require at least a basic disclosure. Most also need you to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme, as they include ‘regulated work’. You can find out more and apply for both of these via the Scottish Government website.

Who pays for my PVG check?
addremove

While we pay for the check initially, the cost is deducted from your salary over three months. A new application costs £59, while a record update (if you’re already a member) costs £18.

Who pays for my SSSC registration?
addremove

As SSSC membership is a personal registration, you will need to pay for this.

Working Hours

Do you offer flexible working?
addremove

This will depend on your role – many jobs in our services are shift based. We’re always happy to talk to potential team members who want to work flexibly, so get in touch. If we can help, we will.

Will I have to work weekends?
addremove

Most of our services operate 24/7, so many of our direct care jobs do require evening or weekend work. If that’s the case, it will be clear in the advert.

Can I work around existing commitments?
addremove

If you’re looking for flexible hours, a relief post may fit. This means you agree to work when you want – making it a great way to work around other commitments in your life.
