Who we support

Making a difference

There's lots of different opportunities to start your career in care at CrossReach. Whether you're interested in working with children or supporting older people, we have a role to match your skills and interests.

Every job at CrossReach has its rewards and its challenges. Some days demand resilience, but nearly every day brings joy. That’s because the work you’ll do impacts real people’s lives. You’ll build relationships – both with the people in our care and the colleagues in your team â€“ sharing their successes and their struggles. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to grow and gain new skills, so the first life you’ll improve could be yours.

To help find the best role for you, the information below explains the types of care we provide and the different jobs available.

Working with older people

We work to help older people live well – achieving the things that matter to them in life. It’s an area that offers a variety of careers, whether you’re a seasoned professional or you have no experience in care. Either way, what matters most is that you have genuine compassion, a sense of fun and you enjoy working with people.

Our Care Workers often help with personal care â€“ assisting with washing and dressing, as well as serving food and managing medications. In residential services, that means working in someone’s home, creating a comforting, welcoming environment. But we also offer a range of day services – including respite care and art sessions for people with dementia. And not every member of the team provides care directly – you could also join us as a Housekeeping Assistant, Cook, Activities Co-ordinator, Gardener/Handyperson or Administrator.

Whatever your role, you’ll  go home every day knowing that you’ve made a real difference to someone’s life.

Helping and supporting adults

We aim to catch anyone who might slip through the cracks in society. The homeless, people with learning disabilities and those struggling with substance misuse issues, among others. For them, we offer empathy, support and a range of services. For you, that means we can offer a variety of rewarding roles with incredible impact.

You could help us support school leavers with learning disabilities, provide group therapy for people overcoming addiction or run a visitor centre at a prison. These are roles where you can bring something of yourself, harnessing hobbies, using your talents and sharing your passions to  provide varied, engaging activities for our service users. Your job with us can be as individual as you are.

Whatever the specifics, you’ll help people plan their support, stay safe and well, and maintain and develop important relationships. And the results can be profound: not just improving lives, but even saving them.

Supporting children and families

At CrossReach we believe all children deserve opportunities to grow and succeed. Whether they have family in prison or struggling with addiction, they’re unable to stay at home or in standard schools, or they have complex additional support needs, we aim to create safe environments and build trusting relationships, to help them mature, develop and thrive.

You could provide that support. There are a range of roles available, from Support and Lead Practitioners working in residential care and education, to Support and Children's Workers who help children with learning disabilities in their local communities.

Whatever service you deliver – residential care, community activities or even short breaks – inspiring young people can be as challenging as it is rewarding, demanding patience and the empathy to understand how they think and feel. But wherever you work, it’s a role where you can turn creativity, communication skills and your own hobbies and interests into an incredible lasting impact.

Looking after your mental health

Mental health challenges can come to us all and be as debilitating as any other health issue. That’s why we value the skills of experienced Counsellors so much. Whether it’s about dealing with everyday pressures or childhood trauma, post-natal issues or substance misuse, our Counselling services can make a transformative impact on people’s lives.

As we support people at every stage of life, there are a range of roles and routes available. You could offer group or one-to-one therapy for adults, provide school visits or creative therapy for children, or even join our Confidential Conversations service offering workplace support. And that’s not to mention the vital roles we have for administrators, business support staff and even the creche attendants who allow parents to access therapy.

Whatever your role, with us you can play a part in providing a safe space to explore feelings, make a human connection and work towards a more fulfilling life.
